The Reluctant Stylista

Over the weekend, I received this mysterious package from Jergens.  It looks as if we’re in for a bit of a surprise from this well-loved brand.  I opened the later it came with to find out what this was all about.

Curiouser and curiouser!  Is this a contest or something?  I don’t really think I’m competitive even when my friends tease me a lot about being so (that’s just for sports and video games, guys!).  Anyway, I actually sent an email to the good people who sent me this because I wasn’t sure when I was getting the mission (excited much?) and they replied that they would be contacting me again during the week to give us a heads up.

The first mission came on a Tuesday.

MISSION #1 : RADIATE BEAUTY FROM WITHIN Take a bottle of Jergens from your welcome pack and share it with a complete stranger. Tell us why you chose that person and her reaction when she received your gift. Post a photo of her with her Jergens bottle.

And guys, in case I haven’t made it clear before–I really am introvert.  Unless I prep myself up for it (and in my line of work, I have to), I usually have a hard time striking a conversation with strangers.  So this was not an easy first task (and what if they think I’m a total weirdo?).

SO I decided to give the bottle to one of the students I bumped into on my way to work.  Jhonazel Caballes is a sweet, smiling girl who I sometimes see waiting for a ride to Perpetual College.  She was pretty shy but she was laughing the whole while and eventually, she gamely posed for a photo.  She was very happy and thankful with the bottle of Jergens (I would be).

Our lesson for the day from Jergens: Have the confidence to approach anyone with your stunningly beautiful skin (STUNNING!). Apply your favorite Jergens variant before embarking on this mission to achieve that instant glow. Then keep applying Jergens twice a day to reveal your most beautiful skin yet.

Well that wasn’t so hard.  You gain smiles and a friend.  I wonder what’s next?

MISSION #2: Apply the new Jergens only on your left arm and leave the right arm bare for the meantime. Take a photo of both arms, comparing the two and tell us your observations.

It’s the second day of the challenge, and I must say this is the easy one (read: I didn’t have to go out of my comfort zone).  I was excited to try the bottle that’s remaining with me and I’m glad I saved this for myself: Jergens Ultra Healing.  It’s for very dry skin, and I think I need it (especially at this age, right?).

I really love how Jergens smells–as I said in the comments below, it reminds me of my mom who always smells so clean and nice, so it’s a very comforting scent.  I was pretty impressed with this variant because my left arm was quite moisturized the whole day.  Of course I had to take photos for posterity for now, so I had to leave my right arm bare.  But as the right arm was dryer (check out the scratch marks on the second photo), eventually, I gave in and slathered it on my right arm as well after a good long wait.

What I like about this Ultra Healing is that it’s obviously a rich lotion, but it wasn’t greasy at all. And of course, that lovely, clean scent!  I think this might be my favorite Jergens yet (my favorite used to be the one with shimmer, but it was sadly phased out).  My advice would be to use this after exfoliation so that newly sloughed off skin gets the VIP treatment right away.

Tip of the day: Dryness prevents light from reflecting off of your skin, making it look dull and dark. Jergens, with its new Hydralucence blend, instantly moisturizes skin and keeps it hydrated, giving you that fresh just-got-out-of-the-shower look throughout the day.

MISSION #3: KEEP HYDRATED. Water is good for your body and helps keep your skin healthy and looking young as well.  Drink only water for today using your Jergens tumbler.  Post photos with time stamp every time you do a refill.

Okay, let me clear this right now–I drink WAY too much water to take photos of every time I do a refill.  I’m guessing the Jergens tumbler is about 250ml of water, and I can tell you right off the bat that I’ve refilled it more than fifteen times in the course of one day.  So I’m just doing a couple of snapshots for when I would drink it with my meals as I’m pretty sure no one among you will be entertained by snapshots of the tumbler or of myself drinking every time.

Jergens 7 Day Challenge: Mission 3

First breakfast at 8:30am
I usually don’t eat breakfast this late, but this was Sunday, the only day of the week that I do because of morning obligations.  Second breakfast is usually the rice, and I ate omelette with fried rice but wasn’t able to take a shot of that.

Jergens 7 Day Challenge - Mission 3

10:00am.
My mom came home from Greece recently and she brought sweets for everyone in the family.  I thinlk these are too sweet!  I must’ve refilled my tumbler three to four times while eating these.  I even had black coffee with it.

MISSION 6: HEALTHY HABITS.  A healthy diet is needed to keep your body strong and your skin beautiful. Share with us a family recipe using ingredients that are good for the skin.

Did you know that celebrities like J.Lo include a lot of salmon in their diet because it gives them a glowing complexion?  Not only that, but salmon is also good for the heart.  I love it best smoked, raw (sushi-grade) or grilled because the flavor is quite rich.  Here’s a really easy recipe where the secret is the sauce–but of course, don’t over grill so the fish retains the juice and taste!  You can check out more salmon recipes like this from FoodieCrush.com.

Ingredients
1 pound fresh salmon, boned
olive oilkosher salt to taste
coarsely ground black pepper

Lemon and cucumber dill sauce ingredients

½ cup sour cream
½ cup olive oil mayonnaise
½ english cucumber, about ½ cup, diced
¼ cup blue cheese dressing
2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
zest of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon lemon juice
pinch of kosher salt

1. Bring your grill to high heat.

2. Rinse the salmon under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

3. Lightly coat the meaty side with olive oil then sprinkle generously with kosher salt and lots of freshly ground coarse black pepper.

4. Place the fish fillet on a hot grill, meat side down, and cook for 3-4 minutes or until you can easily slide your spatula under the fish without it falling apart. Don’t disturb the fish once its on the grill until you’re ready to flip it. Flip the fish and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until desired doneness. Section into preferred serving sizes with or without the skin and serve with fresh cut lemon and cucumber dill sauce.

Tip of the day: Jergens Moisturizers work hand in hand with a healthy diet and exercise in keeping your skin stunningly beautiful. Apply your favorite Jergens variant twice a day to reveal your most beautiful skin yet!

MISSION 7: THE FINISH LINE.  Look for an old full body photo of yourself taken in the last 3 months. Then take a new photo in the exact same pose, this time holding the Jergens variant that you have been using in the past 7 days. Post the photo on your blog.
