I didn’t realize until I was editing these photos for web resolution that there’s something vampiric about this whole setup. The red velvet drapes, the navy blue cape (navy blue was also the color of my paperback Interview with the Vampire and Dracula)…hence the title for this outfit post. A little dramatic? Well, Symphony of the Night was actually one of my favorite video games in Playstation, and one of my most favorite Castlevania titles ever.
If you’re looking for formal wear options other than the usual gowns, I think a cape is perfect over tailored trousers and a dress shirt. Especially for those who love a bit of drama and romance in their sartorial choices. Unfortunately, we don’t see a lot of caped fashionistas here, but oh well. I love the old-world feel of this one.
Like this one commenter told me the last time, a pair of pointy black pumps might’ve suited this ensemble better. But I do like the Asian print on these shoes; they match the oriental brocade pattern of the shirt and the Chinese button knot details. (And I rarely wear the classic pump as I have skinny heels and they almost always slip off my feet.)

So I styled a similar ensemble for John’s lookbook. There were two different tops I paired with the navy trousers and then the cape. Here it is, with Krystal Espiritu, our favorite androgynous Philippine runway fixture (the measurements were more appropriate for her, especially with her height. The clothes are unisex, by the way, if you haven’t noticed yet). These clothes are on hand, but if you want to get measured for your own, please email John at firstname.lastname@example.org or check out his Facebook.
