Jun122010This uber busy week found my haggard self going from work and straight to my parents’ home, instead of the condo unit I share with my sister in Mandaluyong (if you can spare me Mandaluyong in and out jokes?). I work in Makati, and my parents in BF Homes Las Piñas so it may seem curious that I’m actually going farther than I normally would. But there are certain perks to going back to the place where I grew up, comforts that I needed badly this rough week: a closer location to my frequent meeting with clients in Parañaque, a driver, homemade meals that I don’t have to drag my sorry ass to cook, free laundry, and the best part: my mom’s whole collection of shoes.
My sister, mom and I share a lot of things, but it’s most commonly the wardrobe. The reason why I don’t have to bring clothes with me when I go home to Las Pinas unannounced is because I can pretty much steal stuff from my mom’s closet. We’re pretty much all the same size, just some slight differences in height, not so slight in cup size (I’m trailing behind, if you must know) and waistline (I’m still the smallest girl, but neither woman will let me forget that at my age, they were even smaller. Okay, okay, I get it, geez!). So while we may never share pants, we almost always share shoes when we’re at the same house! And I love it.
Granted, my mom and I have different preferences when it comes to footwear. She’s usually safer in her choices, both in style and color. She worries about my heels all the time, even once saying, “Anak, nakakaapekto daw ng matres ang high heels.” To which I should’ve replied, “Ma, Heidi Klum lives her life in heels all the time and she managed to pop out four.” But every now and then, among her collection, I’ll fancy a pair or nine.
This pair of white wedges, for example. We both like wedge heels, at least. She can stand them because they’re comfortable. She bought this one from Mendrez for about 800 bucks, I think.

Another pair of wedges, this time from Rusty Lopez. I think this is three years old, I’m not sure.

My mom is also fond of what she calls “step-ins”, because you literally just step into the shoes and off you go. This one is from Mario D’boro. I’m not actually fond of jewel-like adornments, but since it’s simple with everything else, I can live with it. Plus, I love that it’s wood.

My boyfriend likes this style. I think it’s actually pretty cute, too. They’re from Manels, where my mom bought the most sturdy and comfortable stiletto heels I’ve ever tried on. No picture here, but that’s because it’s way too worn out for photos–that was two years ago, I think.

My mom also loves gladiator-like shoes, and even though I hate the trend now, she has a point–they’re uber comfortable, so my mom doesn’t care about anything besides that. She doesn’t even know they were in vogue, she just loves how the style keeps her feet wrapped and in place.
This one is from Pill at The Ramp. It has fancy wooden heels that are thick and black patent straps. I don’t borrow them anymore because I now have tattered ankles thanks to them, but otherwise, they would’ve been comfortable to walk in.

This one is from Ohrelle in Glorietta 5, and they are the most comfortable heels I’ve tried on so far. Granted, they’re just about two or three inches high (I refer to them as kitten heels), maybe, but your feet constantly feel like they’re cushioned. I’m not sure about the material they used, which seems like plastic or something, but the friction is really hardly noticeable. I loved it so much that even though around that time I didn’t like gladiator heels anymore, I bought myself the same pair. If I remember correctly, it was about 700 or 800php.

I was surprised my mom even bought this pair from Gibi. Sure, they’re gladiator-type, but the heels were pretty thin and high. Then again, she bought it for a formal occassion, which means she probably won’t wear it that much.

This is from Pill at The Ramp, also, and they’re more my style than my mom’s. I was actually with her when she was shopping for shoes, and I was getting her several pairs to try on since she wanted style advice. Of course, some of my choices looked like you had to suffer for style, and I kind of knew my mom wouldn’t go for them anyway and I returned many of what I showed her. So even though I liked this pair, I didn’t bother picking it up anymore. Surprisingly, she stopped to look at this pair herself and ended up buying it. I’ve worn it more often than her, though, and have even used them for shoots.

How awesome is it to share the same size with a mom who loves shoes, too?

booo me.
Haha, remember when a prospective tenant went to look at our condo and they marveled at the size of our shoe rack? I said, “Our dad built that for us because we were girls…and we love shoes.”
…Yeah and at 26, I had a 23″ waistline. How come it was so effortless back then…now I have to jump into my 26″ jeans…Huhuhuhuhuhu.
@shugah – I love my mom’s shoes! Her style is much simpler than mine, so I can always borrow classics from her.
@Bea – why don’t you buy new shoes and add to “our” collection? You need to contribute more, I can’t even remember the last time you boug
The last pair I bought was 6K. Those were the Melissa shoes you love borrowing. =P I’ve been looking for new ones to buy but everything hurts. I don’t know where Ma finds these. Whenever I go visit the stores she visits, they no longer styles I want. Gr.
I meant, “they no longer have the styles I want.”
Gr talaga, nag-skip ng words. Hahahaha!
Great you got some shoes from Pill, too! I still have to get used to heels tho…. :”,0,1,,,,

- Funniest thing I’ve heard all day. Good thing you and your mom share the same shoe size. I didn’t get my mom’s gargantuan shoe size (thank God for that!) and she’s mostly into “step ins”. Sigh.
alex you have to try ichigo, their shoes are super comfy. i have 2 pairs na
@Kira – yeah, didn’t realize they were from Pill until writing this entry! My mom bought them earlier this year and of course I take advantage haha. Also, thanks! I love that header, too. The header changes to a new artwork every time it refreshes, althou
Your mom has great taste! =) I like the shoes! Pero pag ako naghahanap ng shoes wala akong makitang maganda… Yung mga nagugustuhan ko yung mga mahal… Hahaha! Kaya minsan lang din ako bumibili. =P
LOLs on the “nakakaapekto ng matres”, your mom is so kulet!
So nice that you share the same size, my mom is also into shoes, but darn, she’s a 5.5 and I’m an 8.5! Argh. =P
lol, who cares about veiny feet? mine are veiny too. bahala sila if they dont like it.
besides, most celebs are veiny din naman. i think everybody should rest their feet from wearing high heels. omg naalala ko ang sea of shoes!
@Leia – my mom’s a late bloomer, she’s just having fun with fashion now. She didn’t even used to wear make-up back then, which is why my sister and I never learned from her–we just learned by ourselves in our 20s. xD Also, among other fashion items, sh
Why did you not share the other colors I have in the closet like the fusha wedges, maroon wedges, yellow step-in, aquamarine and red sandals which you also borrow. What you’ve featured here are all the safe shade of beige and brown, very mommy-like. I have some youthful taste din naman. Hahaha. The fact that my girls share my shoes justify the purchases. Don’t you copy that! LOL
HAHAHA! Mom’s here!
) Thanks for the support. Oh yeah, I borrowed your hot pink wedges, too…I’ll feature them next time!
Mommy-like…hahahahahaha!
So swerte! My mom is an 8 and I’m a 7 so I barely borrow her shoes and she’s in the US, too. Again, you are so lucky! And she’s so fasyon, too
@teeyah – I know! I steal clothes from her, too! Hahaha!
The last pair from Pill is yes, something that our generation would like
Those are gorgeous! And wedges, too, are love. Your mom knows how to keep her shoes well.
