About
The Reluctant Stylista is a fashion and lifestyle blog written by Alex Lapa--the tomboy who suddenly discovered the joys and perks of dressing up. Original illustrations by Paolo Lazatin.
For inquiries, comments, invites and other messages, shoot me an e-mail. You can also ask me some fashion/styling questions--heck, in my line of work, I rarely get to dress up the same body type as my own! If your question is something that I think will benefit our readers, I will feature it in our Ask Stylista section! Click on the button below to send your questions!
Click here if you're looking for my styling work. Do visit my newly set up R.Stylista Facebook page, which will soon contain a lot more of my collaborations in commercials, advertisements, TV, fashion shows and even lifestyle, personal and engagement shoots!

Mar112013Tags: product reviewsI’m not big on perfume. I prefer scented lotion or bath products, and sometimes, maybe some light cologne on rare occasions (the classic Johnson & Johnson’s baby blue is my convenience store pick). But sometime back in 2011, I was invited to the launch of Art of Scent at Newport Mall and we were introduced to different types of scents. They were categorized as Floral, Fresh, Oriental and Woody. While browsing each section, I stopped by the Florals and noticed this quirky bottle of perfume that looked like an mp3 player. I picked it up, tested it, and fell in love. It was Play (For Her), by Givenchy. This scent was launched in 2010, 2 years after the original scent for men was made (Justin Timberlake was the face of Play, if you can remember). It was made by Emilie Bevierre Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac.
I know, it looks like what a teenager would tote around. It doesn’t exactly scream LUXE. But if I thought I loved it at first spritz, the drydown was even better (for me). I’ve read a few reviews, and the drydown is different for everyone, but on my skin, it settles quite nicely. Your body’s chemistry has a lot to do with it, I’m sure, as I notice most perfumes smell different on me than on others. It’s also pretty long-lasting to me, though more than a few reviewers have claimed otherwise.
Play is light, airy and not too strong–although there’s a version called Play Intense, which I’m guessing is better suited for night. This seems like a “day” scent, but because I’m a perfume noob, I don’t really believe in using different scents for day and night. If I like something, I’ll wear it all the time! And besides…I dislike really strong scents at night. They trigger the gag reflex if I’ve consumed enough alcohol. Heh.
It’s categorized under Florals, but there’s a hint of something woodsy and fruity. I suggest you test it out first and see how it settles on your skin after a few hours
Top notes: Pink Peppercorn and Orange Blossom, followed by the heart of Amyris Wood, Tiare flower and Orchid, wrapped with the base of Sandalwood, Patchouli, Tonka bean and Benzoin.
I got my bottle from Fresh Fragrance Bar, and I think I’ll be buying a new one once I run out. Fresh Fragrance Bar branches:
