These two designers–Edgar San Diego and Eric Pineda–had a more Filipiniana spin to their collections, recalling an aesthetic reminiscent of Spanish colonial era but of course,
sexyfiedmodernized. I guess Filipiniana is still a popular direction to head off to, this year.
Edgar San Diego:
Chat Almarvez. I already mentioned her in the last entry, but in case you missed it, she placed second in the Supermodel of the World search last year which, as you know, is a pretty big deal. It launched the careers of girls such as Chanel Iman, Adriana Lima and Gemma Ward. I wrote an article about it, “Pinay wins first runner up at Ford Supermodel of the World 2010” for The Philippine Online Chronicles, cos that was the highest we’ve ever achieved in the prestigious contest until Danica Magpantay came along.
This, ladies and gents, is Danica Magpantay, the daughter of the famous ex-model and now make-up artist Lala Flores. She actually won the Ford model search this year besting the 50 or so representatives from different countries. I didn’t recognize her immediately, as I was fixated on the clothes, but a cheer erupted once she was halfway down the runway. I was wondering why this girl had a fan club in the audience. That was when I was realized it was Danica, probably on her first Philippine Fashion Week walk.
Danica also got a $250,000 modeling contract following her win and she’s represented by Ford (of course). Locally, I don’t know who, probably Cal Carrie’s. It’s a good thing she, Chat and Charo Ronquillo still had the time to drop by our local fashion week, seeing as they’re usually so busy at New York.
This is Charo Ronquillo, who placed third in the Ford Supermodel of the World 2006. She’s been called the Asian Kate Moss, which I was inclined to disagree with until I saw plenty of her close-up photos. She does look a bit like Kate Moss, and out of the country’s Ford model winners, I think she’s easily the prettiest face. Among the recent winners, anyway, since there’s also the stunner Melanie Marquez, who also placed second in the same contest back in 1986.
We move on to Eric Pineda’s collection. I loved the black and gold Spanish-inspired motif! Very luxe Holiday:
