About
The Reluctant Stylista is a fashion and lifestyle blog written by Alex Lapa--the tomboy who suddenly discovered the joys and perks of dressing up. Original illustrations by Paolo Lazatin.
For inquiries, comments, invites and other messages, shoot me an e-mail. You can also ask me some fashion/styling questions--heck, in my line of work, I rarely get to dress up the same body type as my own! If your question is something that I think will benefit our readers, I will feature it in our Ask Stylista section! Click on the button below to send your questions!
Click here if you're looking for my styling work. Do visit my newly set up R.Stylista Facebook page, which will soon contain a lot more of my collaborations in commercials, advertisements, TV, fashion shows and even lifestyle, personal and engagement shoots!

Feb232010Tags: art, fashion, philippine fashion, rtw, shoppingI don’t normally shop for clothes at the mall nowadays, but if I did, I will certainly head straight to Freeway. I am so in love with their National Artists collection! The first National Artist whose works they featured on their clothes was Nick Joaquin, and I remember balking at buying this really pretty shirtdress with his words printed on it. Not because I didn’t want it, but I was arguing with myself about its timelessness, being unique (since Freeway is more mainstream than shops I usually frequent) and whether I really needed another shirtdress. I regretted not buying it, which is rare for me. Below are some of those from the Nick Joaquin collection (and I’m not a hoodie person, but I think I can make an exception for this one):

Now that Freeway released the second wave of art-inspired fashion, I’m really finding it hard to resist. And how very untimely, since I’m so low budget nowadays it’s not even funny. Actually, it’s practically non-existent (the said budget). But that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this second collection featuring Ang Kiukok. Just look at these lovely little things! And what better way to promote Philippine art, right?

And just look at those posters! The billboards really caught my eye because I loved the styling and art direction of these photos. They’re really classic and lovely, even if they’re actually just wearing casual clothes.
Again, I’m not a knitted sweater or hoodie person, nor do I like clowns, but when I saw this, I lusted IMMEDIATELY. I’d say “Please buy it for my birthday!” but it’s too far off. Phooey.

I never knew that they used a real model for the freeway billboard they had on edsa. I just found out when you told me.
I like the one with the yellow dress though, I didn’t know there were more hehe
Waaaah! I also regret not buying the Nick Joaquin collection…I was actually telling myself repeatedly I must drop by Freeway but I keep forgetting. I only remember whenever I see the billboards.
I got the Ang Kiukok watch for my birthday and the Ang Kiukok tote and clutch bag for Christmas — I love them all to bits and use them everywhere. Good thing they’re black and white, most of my clothes are black, and I’ve always been a huge Ang Kiukok fan.
