I’m a little delayed in reviewing some Lorys samples I’ve been sent, as I’ve already spied several other bloggers who have already done so. I figured, well, no one’s written about using it for special conditioning treatment yet, so I’ll do that. I happen to have this curious contraption in my care, which is like a portable hair steamer. In college, I used to have a jar of hot oil conditioner handy for moments when I was bored and I’d give myself a hair spa. It’s been years since I’ve used this, and I was quite happy to be getting it out again.
Lorys is a Brazilian hair spa product. It comes in 5 variants:
Ceramidas is used to deeply treat and condition opaque and damaged hair.
Duo Chocolate, I was deathly curious about because it sounds so yummy. It has thermal activiated silicon for intensive care of damaged hair.
Fruit Cocktail for the care and conditioning of all types of hair.
Snake Oil Effect developed to protect, restore and condition damaged and chemically treated hair.
Shea Butter for conditioning curly and dry hair.
I would have loved to try Duo Chocolate or Shea Butter, but alas, only Fruit Cocktail and Snake Oil (their bestselling variants, apparently) made it to my address. I was told the courier even had trouble finding our house, and I pity him if he had to bring all variants because…

That is some serious conditioner. This is 1kg or 1000g worth of conditioner. It’s almost as big as my head, so that’s like my face sitting on top of that box.
(Pardon the pictures; I was using our old Ixus as I left my 30D and tripod back at our condo)

So this is my yucky unwashed hair. Sorry for that mess in the background, I was looking all over for the terry cap that comes with the steamer. After digging out almost half of my closet, I realized I kept it inside the steamer a long time ago so I wouldn’t have to look for it like I just did.
I slathered the Snake Oil (as I have color-treated hair) effect variant on my hair, trying not to get it too much on the roots. Everyone who has seen this jar at home just goes, “Snake Oil?” My brother even asked me how the hell do you oil a snake. Well, it’s snake oil effect, so I doubt there’s any reptilian juice in this concoction, and it smells pretty much like normal conditioner to me.
I recommend using gloves or a plastic spoon to scoop up the product, as this packaging might lead to unsanitary use. I had neither, but I thoroughly washed my hands before dipping in.

I got all my hair under that cap. It’s pointy because I did a top bun, and not because I’m a conehead.

I then popped on the hair steamer I was telling you about.

Doing my best to imitate Strawberry Shortcake Girl.

The steamer has to be plugged, so I can’t walk around for the next 15 minutes, which is the recommended time for deep conditioning. So I grabbed one of my Anne books that I’ve been obsessing about (again) lately. I want to buy a new set, as I’ve worn these out for over 15 years. Anyone who grew up with Anne Shirley is a kindred spirit, I always say.
After my 15 minutes were up, I took a shower, and shampooed as I was told by Anisha Gidwani (one of the people responsible for contacting me and sending me the samples) when it’s used as hot oil, it has to be shampooed off, otherwise it’ll be too oily.

Here’s my hair almost dried up.
What I like about the product:
My hair wasn’t left limp after the conditioning. It still had body! And it’s so smooth and soft right now, I like running my hand through it. Lorys is easily one of the best conditioners I’ve had for some time. It’s so affordable, too, because it retails for 349.75 per 1000g! I’d recommend it to households with lots of females in it to share the hair spa fun.
What I don’t like about it:
Nothing, really. I just wish they had smaller jars, because man, how they hell am I going to finish this all up before it expires? I thought about having a spa party and using this on my friends. This would be a good investment for salons.
Conditioning tip:
I use hot oil conditioner whenever I’m out at the beach. I slather it on before I dive into the water. It keeps your hair from drying up with the combined forces of sun and saltwater, plus, heat on the conditioner will make your hair really soft after your swim.
Lorys is available at Watsons. I’ve been told that there will be 500g jars soon as its ready for distribution from Brazil.
Thank you to Anisha Gidwana and Monica Borja for letting me try this fabulous product.

Ohhh, I was thinking…”What is a tub of ice cream doing in the bathroom?” It looks like a giant yogurt tub kasi.
Haha yeah it’s so big! All three of us at home can use this for a year.
I’ve been using the traditional organic “gugu” shampoo and olive oil conditioner for 3 weeks already. No problem with it but I would like to try that Lorys conditioner this weekend. Hmmnnn, and now I know where that steamer of mine is – may I have it and keep it in my bathroom again!
Oh my gosh, and you read the Anne series, too. I now seriously love you and your blog. Haha.
Haha! My favorite is Anne of the Island. I’ve lost about half of the books in the series, they’re in some storage box downstairs and won’t be unearthed unless we move out. xD So I want to buy a new set.
where did you get your steamer?
i love DIY hair spas! I always feel I’m being ripped off when I go to salons for hair treatments haha (or maybe I’m just kuripot) Brazilian hair products have good reputation so I think I’m going to give this a try
Thanks for the review!
Hello Alex
I just can’t stop myself from asking if that’s a blue ice tray at the background of your first picture lol Wala lang.
Nice AFTER photo!

HAHA! Yes, those are a couple of blue ice trays I use to keep my earrings and other small trinkets in them.
We are kindred spirits! I had a photo with that exact same copy just a few blog posts ago!
Your hair steamer makes me envious
Bea from A plus B
Ira – my mom says she bought it from Rustan’s and it doesn’t cost that much. I never get hair treatments at the salon myself, I just go there for cuts and coloring.
Bea – I love Anne Shirley! I had the set for the longest time but when I was a kid I just read til about Anne of Windy Poplars because I couldn’t relate to the older Anne at all. So I read the rest when I was already in high school and college, hehe.
Hi! New here. Did you get the steamer separately? Where’d you buy it?
Thanks!
Manila Girl – It was bought in Rustan’s years ago! I think it was around P800 or so back then. I’m sure if it’s still around, it costs much more now.
The monster-sized tub is speaking to me… I love big tubs of conditioner and this one looks like a really good deal for the price
I like to leave some in my hair while I do the laundry. I don’t need to steam it naman, right? Hahanapin ko itong product na ito.
I was thinking… The color of Anne of Windy Poplars matches your steaming cap. Is that why you picked it up? It certainly makes for a cute photo.
Yes yes! There are 3 ways to use it: as a regular conditioner, for deep conditioning and for hair spa.
I don’t know if they’re still having their buy 1 take 1 promo, super sulit for the price!
